Title: Heaven Sighs
Pairing: Brooks Laich/Mike Green
Rating: Velveeta (it really is THAT cheesy)
Summary: Brooks makes Mike go to breakfast, because everyone needs a croissant from Paris just once.
Author's Notes: This is probably the cheesiest and most cliche thing I have ever written in my life, but I wrote it for
mausi who is having a really shitty time right now and who I will do anything for. The back story is that in our universe Mike was sad about not getting into the All Star Game and so Brooks took him to Paris. This isn't betaed. Also, apparently, I have no shame. None at all. Lyrics from "La Vie En Rose" (I told you it was cliche.)
Brooks had insisted that they get breakfast at the little bakery that was just a block away from their hotel, even after Mike had promised to make breakfast in bed worth his while.
“We are only here for a few days, Mikey,” Brooks said, pushing away Mike’s wandering hands. “Besides, how often can we get an authentic croissant?”
Mike rolled his eyes. “Brooks we are from Canada, all you need to do is go to Quebec, I am sure Boyd would help us find a place.”
He wouldn’t take no for an answer, so they walked down the road and found the little brick building on Sunday morning. Mike had to admit that walking in the scent alone almost made the fact that they were out of bed before noon worth it. There were glass cases of different pastries, and though Brooks said that croissants were local delicacies Mike couldn’t help but drool over the Bear Claw that was almost the size of his head.
Neither one of their French was up to par so there was a lot of pointing and shaking of heads, but they both got what they wanted (a Bear Claw and coffee for Mike and a croissant and orange juice for Brooks) and wandered out onto the tables on the sidewalks. There was something distinctly French about sitting at a table in a café in the middle of the sidewalk, not that Mike would admit that to Brooks.
Across the street a small band had set up and were playing what sounded distinctly like “La Vie En Rose”, and Mike couldn’t hide the smile that played across his lips. He had fully planned on moping all day long, but couldn’t bring himself to do so. Brooks was relaxed, legs spread wide and making fairly pornographic sounds over his croissant. The light shined distinctly off of his big black sunglasses and the smile that he usually reserved just for Mike was firmly on his face.
“What are you so happy about?” Mike asked, taking a bite off of food.
Brooks’ grin widened as he sipped at his juice to hide it. “Nothing.”
“Come on, what is it?” Mike prodded. Brooks hesitated for a second, put his glass down and stood up. When he offered his hand out Mike looked up at him like he had grown a second head. “What?”
The top of Brooks’ cheeks tinged red, and his words came out rushed and barely understandable. “Wanna dance?”
Mike looked around; noting the lack of people on the street but still shook his head. “Are you crazy? We don’t dance.”
“Come on,” Brooks prodded this time, his fingers crooking towards him. “No one will notice.”
Brooks face was almost completely red then, and Mike felt his own flush starting. He looked at his half eaten Bear Claw and then again at the street around him. The music filled the air around them. He swallowed hard and then looked back up. Taking Brooks hand he stood up, his brain screaming at him to sit back down but everything else humming a happy acceptance.
They silently fought over who should lead, but Brooks won out, he was the one who asked in the first place. Mike relaxed in his arms and closed his eyes and just for a second everything was perfect.
